The Daily Docket 6/4/14

Pastor, Make Your Own Sandwich— This is good stuff: Maybe we aren’t trying to complain, pastors, but I imagine the church members who read these articles perceive a subtle (or not-so-subtle) air of grievances: “My job is miserable. No one understands me!” Or even worse they hear, “You all really suck the life out of me with your problems and sin. (HT: @LukeTolbert)

Authority for Living— From where do you find your authority for living, the culture around you, or the Word of God? A Christian whose life finds its authority in contemporary culture will be inconsistent with Scripture. Likewise a Christian whose life finds its authority in Scripture will be inconsistent in many ways with the surrounding culture.

Tullian’s Apology— Russ Moore’s article on Tullian Tchvidjian’s recent apology is good.  His comments about Richard Stearns were even more helpful for me. Think about how many Christians wouldn’t take “yes” for an answer from World Vision when Rich Stearns apologized for their mistake on their hiring policy as it related to marriage. The tendency many of us had at first (and I include myself in this) was to cynically think that World Vision had just made a calculated decision to do damage control.

There is no Third Way— Albert Mohler’s article on homosexuality and the church’s response is helpful.  We will all have to make a decision on this important issue one day.

Five Characteristics of Churches that Survived a Near Death ExperienceThe irony of the “near death” churches is that the sudden negative event actually was used by God to give the congregation a sorely needed wake up call.  Sometimes we all need a wakeup call. Churches too.

Thank you Craig. Your blogs are always helpful. I listen to the Briefing / Albert Mohler, and appreciate his comments. Yes, we all have to make a stand as there is no middle ground. Sadly, many try to re-format the Word to accommodate the culture, but those who are firmly rooted in the Word will stand, and Yahweh is immutable. How silly it is to argue with God about how we are to live? For we all will stand before Him and that, very soon.
