Christmas Hopes

As a part of Home For The Holidays advent devotional, I have included weekly games and activities for families to direct their attention toward Christ this Christmas season. If you have your copy of Home for the Holidays, you may have already read about the Christmas Hopes activity. If not, keep reading to see how this activity can help your family focus on Jesus this Christmas season.

A biblical understanding of hope is a desire for something good, with the expectation that it can be obtained. We find rest when we put our hope in the Lord.

Hebrews 11:1 tells us,

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not see.

True hope comes from God. Romans 15:13 says,

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Discuss how the greatest, most valuable hope only comes from Jesus.

Print out a copy of Christmas Hopes pdf below for each member of your family. Collect some pens, pencils, crayons, or markers and scissors. Gather your family together and have each person write down or draw several things they hope will happen this Christmas. Then put the “hopes” in a bowl and draw them out one by one as you guess who wrote or drew each thing. After each successful guess, have everyone shout “Jesus gives hope!” together. Afterward, review a Biblical definition of hope and explain that the greatest, most real hope only comes from Jesus.
