Several years ago, Brad Waggoner and his research team from LifeWay discovered the that the most important factor in determining a Christian’s spiritual maturity was daily Bible reading. This is not to say that other spiritual disciplines are not important, but it may point to the fact that other spiritual disciplines are built largely off of the discipline of daily Bible reading.
With that in mind, it has long been my goal as a pastor to encourage the members of our church to be in the Bible regularly and to enable them to understand the Bible for themselves. The reality is that reading the Bible is daunting for many people. They believe that the Bible is too difficult to understand. With that in mind, I set out to create an easy to remember rubric for Bible Study. I developed a basic outline and then went to our Discipleship Pastor, Luke Tolbert, and asked him to make it user friendly and appealing. He’s great at those things, and as a result we have created a Bible Study Map.
We made the map available as a tri-fold booklet that doubles as a Bible book mark. The map utilizes four steps to understanding the Bible:
- Explore
- Examine
- Engage
- Execute
The Bible study map is available for your use as you see fit. It is our prayer that God will use this tool to help people read, understand, and apply the Bible more often and more effectively.
