We recently bought copies of J. Budziszewski’s book, How to Stay Christian in College to send to all of the college students from our church. Of course, before I recommended the book to our college students, I read it. If you are a college student or the parent of a college student, I would recommend you pick up a copy.
The book covers several topics including some basic theology, apologetics, and worldview study. Budziszewski is a professor at the University of Texas, so he is well qualified to also write about coping with college life, interacting with non-believing professors, and dealing with myths related to love and romance on college and university campuses.
Since college is a few years in my rear-view mirror, not all aspects of this book applied directly to me. However, Budziszewski offered seven prayers for evangelism that impacted me and I believe can be directly beneficial to any Christian who is looking to share their faith (hint: that should be every Christian).
- Pray for the chance to share your faith.
- Pray to be ready to share your faith.
- Pray for discretion in sharing your faith.
- Pray for words to share your faith.
- Pray for patience to listen as you share your faith.
- Pray for God to prepare your friends heart and mind as you share your faith.
- Pray to thank God for the opportunity to glorify His name.
This is really simple advice for you as you try to get started sharing your faith: pray, pray, pray, pray, pray, pray, and pray. Bathe your evangelism in prayer. God will honor those prayers.
How do you pray about your evangelistic opportunities?
